Customer Objective
Install a contemporary kitchen in a period Redland home, combining gloss cream cabinetry with warm oak worktops and traditional range cooker features.
Scope of Work
- Installation of cream gloss slab base and wall units
- Fitting and sealing of solid oak worktops
- Installation of white subway tile splashback
- Fitting of black range cooker with gas hob
- Installation of Belfast sink with chrome mixer tap
- Integration of built-in microwave within tall wall unit
- Fitting of stainless steel chimney extractor hood
Challenges
Every kitchen installation presents its own set of practical challenges. For this project in Redland, the key considerations were:
- Working in a galley-style layout typical of Victorian Redland terraces, where floor and wall alignment are rarely perfect
- Combining a traditional range cooker and Belfast sink with contemporary gloss cabinetry without the result looking disjointed
- Ensuring oak worktops were properly sealed around the sink area to prevent water ingress
How We Handled It
Units were scribed to the period walls, which were not plumb, before worktops were measured and cut
The oak worktops were treated and sealed with particular attention to the Belfast sink cutout and surrounding edges
The range cooker was positioned and levelled so it sat flush with adjacent cabinetry despite the uneven floor
